5th Edition Dogs of War

5th edition

The 5th edition of the Dogs of War and the first with its own stand-alone army book was released in White Dwarf (US) #225 released in October of 1998. The 5th Edition rule book was written by Nigel Stillman with Rick Priestly and Tuomas Pirinen.

The 5th edition of rules for the Dogs of War expanded the capabilities of the army in two ways: 1) A player could field a Dogs of War force with regular units or 2) with Regiments of Renown. A third option is to field an army entirely filled with Regiments of Renown.

In addition to being fielded as an army in its own right almost every army save Bretonnians were able to hire at least certain regiments. Usually what determined this is what "side" the mercenary regiment fell on: "good" or evil. In Warhammer this is fairly murky as most sides are are not so clear cut. In 6th Edition Bretonnians were spefically prohibited from fielding any Dogs of War units.
